Job Information

Description
  1. Knowledgeable of normal standards during treatment and appropriately reports abnormalities in a timely manner.
  2. Ensures that any change in patient condition or unusual circumstances is reported immediately to the OT and/or charge nurse.
  3. Recognizes and communicates cardiopulmonary arrest or other emergency situations and initiates basic life support when appropriate.
  4. Practices correct isolation techniques to maintain a safe environment to control the spread of infection.
  5. Maintains the cleanliness of utilized instruments and equipment per hospital policy.
  6. Demonstrates knowledge of occupational therapy equipment utilized in different procedures and modalities, for example traction, ultrasound, etc.
  7. Utilizes resources appropriately and uses and maintains equipment in order to prolong working life.
  8. Completes all required documentation of patient care according to accepted regulatory, corporate and professional guidelines.
  9. Resolves conflicts, with assistance from the OT or Rehabilitation Manager areas of concern or conflict with patient’s families and/or co-workers in a professional, proactive and courteous manner.
  10. Accepts direction from supervisors and other management team members in a positive and professional manner.
  11. Communicates with the Occupational Therapist, Rehabilitation Manager, physicians and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems and plans.
  12. Participates as necessary in patient care conferences.
  13. Participates in In-Service Training Programs.
  14. Participates in discharge planning.
  15. Establish and instruct caregivers in patient specific maintenance programs.
  16. Secure necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for patients to facilitate independence.
  17. Treats patients according to treatment plan established by OT and approved by the physician in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  18. Records daily treatments and charges with respect to department policy.
  19. Communicates with the Manager of Rehabilitation regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes.
  20. Accesses and checks webmail each shift when working to keep informed of current events.

Job Requirements

Experience

• Minimum of one year experience working in an IP and OP setting in the areas of developmental disabilities and neurological/orthopedic conditions.
• Experience in feeding

Skills

• Current licensure in the state of Practice as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant
• Certified in CPR
• Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility
• Maintains certifications and licenses as current to avoid voluntary resignation

Education Required

• Graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association accredited school of COTA
