Health begins children's hospital
expansion

NEXUS
Health
Systems
has broken
ground on
a $7.5
million
expansion
of
HealthBridge
Children's
Hospital.
HealthBridge
is a
pediatric
specialty
facility
which
provides
step-down
ICU and
rehabilitative
care for
technologically
dependent
and
medically
fragile
children
aged from
birth to
21 years.
It is
located at
2929
Woodland
Park Dr.
Architects
Perkins +
Will,
building
contractors
Hull &
Hull Inc.
and
Healthlink
Development
have been
hired to
work on
the
project.
The
expansion,
scheduled
for
completion
in January
2008, will
include
the
renovation
and
upgrading
of the
existing
facility
and an
expansion
of
outpatient
services.
The
hospital
has been
operating
at maximum
capacity
since
1999,
according
to Dr.
John W.
Cassidy,
president
and CEO of
Houston-based
NEXUS
Health.
The
expansion
will add
16 beds
and allow
HealthBridge
to provide
speech
therapy,
physical
and
occupational
therapy as
well as
in-house
radiology
and
laboratory
capabilities,
Cassidy
said.
NEXUS
Health has
also
completed
a site
development
plan that
will
permit the
addition
of another
20 beds,
when
needed,
ultimately
bringing
the campus
to its
target
total of
60
inpatient
beds.
Founded in
1992,
NEXUS
Health
Systems
provides
medical
and
rehabilitative
care to
adults and
children
that have
specific
health
care needs
following
acute
injury and
illness.
Besides
Houston,
the firm
operates
facilities
in Orange
County,
Calif.
