NEXUS Health begins children's hospital expansion

Houston Business Journal - November 17, 2006

NEXUS Health Systems has broken ground on a $7.5 million expansion of HealthBridge Children's Hospital.

HealthBridge is a pediatric specialty facility which provides step-down ICU and rehabilitative care for technologically dependent and medically fragile children aged from birth to 21 years. It is located at 2929 Woodland Park Dr.

Architects Perkins + Will, building contractors Hull & Hull Inc. and Healthlink Development have been hired to work on the project.

The expansion, scheduled for completion in January 2008, will include the renovation and upgrading of the existing facility and an expansion of outpatient services.

The hospital has been operating at maximum capacity since 1999, according to Dr. John W. Cassidy, president and CEO of Houston-based NEXUS Health.

The expansion will add 16 beds and allow HealthBridge to provide speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy as well as in-house radiology and laboratory capabilities, Cassidy said.

NEXUS Health has also completed a site development plan that will permit the addition of another 20 beds, when needed, ultimately bringing the campus to its target total of 60 inpatient beds.

Founded in 1992, NEXUS Health Systems provides medical and rehabilitative care to adults and children that have specific health care needs following acute injury and illness. Besides Houston, the firm operates facilities in Orange County, Calif.
