Swaby Named Administrator at Houston’s HealthBridge Children’s Hospital

January 22, 2007

Geoffrey Swaby has been named the new administrator for HealthBridge Children’s Hospital in Houston, a comprehensive, interdisciplinary care facility for children with birth and developmental disorders, catastrophic illness, or traumatic injury.

“Geoffrey brings an impressive blend of strategic business planning experience and practical operations management expertise,” said Ed Downs, chief operating officer of Houston-based Nexus Health Systems. “He has a track record of success with programs and service areas as well as helping organizations respond accordingly to market and other outside forces. Those are important qualities for a successful hospital administrator. ”

For the last two years, Swaby served as the manager of pain, urology, and diabetes education clinics and as the interim manager of sports rehabilitation in the Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. In that role, he oversaw staff in multiple departments serving 16,000 patients a year and was responsible for a budget of more than two million dollars. He also was actively involved in marketing and promotion of the hospital in the Houston community.

From 2001 to 2005, Swaby was Memorial Hermann Hospital’s director of diagnostic and procedural services. In that capacity, Swaby helped develop and expand the wound care program from its inception. He also spearheaded the rebuilding of the gamma knife department, after the floods of Tropical Storm Allison destroyed it, and built its service volume back up to pre-flood levels.

In 2000, Swaby was honored as Memorial Hermann Employee of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the hospital system.

Swaby worked in two other positions with Memorial Hermann. He also was the technical director for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Systems in San Diego in the late 1980s.

Swaby holds two certifications as a practice manager and as a hyperbaric technician. While in the Memorial Hermann system, he served on multiple committees and led several community efforts. He headed up several United Way campaigns and was on the Children’s Miracle Network Employee Fund Raising Committee for seven years. He also is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and an associate member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Swaby received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from LeTourneau University and his Associates of Science degree from the Florida Institute of Technology. He currently is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston, Clear Lake.
